Level 3 Qualification in Lowland Expedition Leadership

Our highly experienced staff have a wealth of knowledge and are passionate about developing the next generation of leaders who can enthuse others about the outdoors.
To access this course candidates need to be a minimum of 17 years old upon registration and have a keen interest in the outdoors and have access to groups so that they can practice and develop the necessary skills required to access the assessment. (candidates need to be 18 when undertaking the assessment)
We run 2 different course models 1) 3 weekends to cover the training framework plus a 2 day / 2 night assessment and 2) a 5 day intensive training week plus a 2 day / 2 night assessment weekend.

Teaching and Assessment
Prior to the course starting candidates will be registered with Sports Leaders UK (£75.00 which is included in your fee) and you will receive the relevant resources which are needed. The syllabus is laid down by Sports Leaders and is accredited on the Required Qualification Framework (RQF)
Once the training has begun you will cover theoretical and practical sessions which cover 72 hours of guided learning time, you will cover the following units:
Unit 1 – Developing outdoor leadership skills
Unit 2 – Plan a walk for a group in lowland countryside
Unit 3 – Prepare for a walk in lowland countryside
Unit 4 – Lead sessions that impart the knowledge and skills required to walk in lowland countryside
Unit 5 – Lead a walk in lowland countryside
Unit 6 – Navigation for the Walk Leader
Unit 7 – Management of unaccompanied groups
Unit 8 – Campcraft for the Expedition Leader

First Aid: The LEL3 does not include a first aid qualification which is needed to work with groups. It is recommended that a 16 Hour first aid course is attended prior to achieving the qualification. Course information can be found here

Duke of Edinburgh Residential Activity
As an approved activity provider for The Duke of Edinburgh's Award the 5 day intensive course meets the requirements for the Residential Section. This is a great way of learning new skills and being able to support your centre at Bronze & Silver groups.
